Rocking Rhymes and Kitchen Helpers
January at St. Matthew's Weekday School (WDS) was alive with energy and discovery as children dove into the theme “Rocking Rhymes and Kitchen Helpers.” Through hands-on activities and playful learning, our classrooms transformed into spaces of creativity, curiosity, and skill-building.
In celebration of literacy and life skills, our children engaged in a variety of activities designed to enhance their learning experiences and deepen their involvement in language exploration and practical skills.
The month began with a series of captivating storytime sessions. Classic nursery rhymes and folk tales, such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Hen, were brought to life through engaging readings. Children not only delighted in these timeless tales but also developed their language skills by learning new words, expressions, and storytelling nuances.
Our young learners’ creativity was challenged as they drew characters from their favorite nursery rhymes and crafted props. These fun-filled activities were instrumental in developing fine motor skills, fostering creativity, and encouraging imaginative play.
The highlight of the month was the "Kitchen Helpers" activity. Children teamed up to prepare their own snacks, measure ingredients, and participate in food-related games. These hands-on experiences taught valuable life skills such as teamwork, independence, nutritional awareness, and basic math—all wrapped in the excitement of culinary adventures.
Parents remain an integral part of our WDS community. This month, we encouraged families to extend storytelling sessions at home. The joy of retelling familiar tales together has strengthened parent-child bonds and made learning an ongoing journey beyond the classroom.
Reflecting on January's theme, it’s clear that at St. Matthew's Weekday School, we seamlessly blend learning with fun, turning everyday experiences into opportunities for growth and development. We are dedicated to nurturing our children, preparing them for future education while prioritizing social and emotional development in a caring, supportive environment.
